Carol’s Big Chop for Little Princess Trust
Carol, one of the individuals we support in Abergavenny, has donated her hair to charity - and raised money along the way!
Back in May, when most people were watching and celebrating the coronation of King Charles. Carol, one of the individuals we support in Abergavenny, decided that she wanted to do something for charity.
Carol has Down’s Syndrome and lives at one of our Supported Living services. She is very independent and fun-loving, but very sadly, she has suffered losses in her family. Having lost a sister to cancer a few years ago, Carol decided that she wanted to do something for a charity or organisation that supported little girls with cancer.
That’s when Carol, supported by Pobl colleagues, decided on ‘the Little Princess Trust’. Once the charity was chosen, Carol set about fundraising – and ensuring her already long hair kept growing!
The day for the “big chop” came and Carol sat outside to have her hair cut, cheered on by lots of people from the local community. And to be fair it was a lot of hair! A total of £189.20 was raised and the hair will now be made into wigs for young girls going through various cancer treatments.
Since donating, Carol has received a certificate and ‘thank you’ letter from the charity. Carol says she would do it again if it meant the young girls felt special.
What a selfless and inspiring act – we’re sure that Carol and the team have made a huge difference.
