Furniture donated to local businesses

As part of the renovation of our Aberystwyth student accommodation, we’ve been delighted to donate 90% of the old furniture to good causes.

Clarendon, our beautiful seafront building, has been owned by us here at Pobl Student Living for quite some time, but it has only recently fallen under our management. As soon as the keys were returned to us, we started the project, which has seen us strip out all of the old bulky furniture including beds, wardrobes, desks and chairs to replace them with slick, modern equivalents.

We recognised that although the old furniture was no longer quite right for our accommodation, it could definitely be of benefit to people in the locality.

Our partner estate agent, Alexanders, identified a local independent, not-for-profit organisation called CRAFT, which specialises in finding new homes for old domestic items. It was the perfect match!

Whilst CRAFT received 75% of the furniture, the remainder of the re-usable items were then donated to charities in the Swansea Valleys, closer to Pobl’s offices.

Warren Lloyd, Head of Commercial Property at Pobl Student Living said, “This is an exciting project for us and whilst we’re keen to modernise the building for our student market, we also recognise the importance of sustainability. It’s a real priority for us and we’re really pleased that so much of the old furniture has been put to good use.”

Pobl Student Living is part of Pobl Group and as one of Wales’ biggest provider of homes, care and support, we are well-placed to understand how much of a difference this type of donation can mean.

“Pobl isn’t just a student accommodation provider or landlord – we also provide care and support to vulnerable people across south and west Wales. To some, it may seem like an old wardrobe, but to others it is an opportunity to furnish an otherwise empty house. There’s no way it would ever have gone to landfill - and if it helps people in need, all the better.” Warren Lloyd

The renovation work is due to be completed in September, ready for the new University term and at Pobl Student Living, we can’t wait to welcome students to their fresh new rooms.
