Janner House receives Certificate of Achievement

The team at Janner House in Cardiff have been awarded Enabling Environments Certificate of Achievement as they work towards becoming the first supported accommodation project in Wales to receive full accreditation.

Enabling Environments are places where there is a focus on creating a positive and effective social environment and where healthy relationships are seen as the key to success.

Places which are enabling create more opportunities and better outcomes for everyone there. They create happier, more productive, staff; better outcomes for individual recipients; and support everyone to give greater contributions and to be the best they can be.

Having evidenced 9 of the 10 standards already, once they compete the 10th, and final, Janner House will officially be leading the way in Wales.

What Enabling Environments had to say...

The Award Panel for EE have confirmed the assessment teams review of the service and have officially awarded Janner House the Certificate of Achievement!

I can inform you that the Award Panel meeting on 20th April ratified the assessor’s decision that Janner House should be granted the Enabling Environment Certificate of Achievement.

Your environment has made great achievements so far and is well on the way to becoming an Enabling Environment. You should now continue to improve and grow, focussing on the Standards you have not yet met but not forgetting the others as well.

Craig Smith, Area Manager for Cardiff said:

“Nine months ago the team took the decision to make a concerted effort to aim for Enabling Environments accreditation as the team were already striving to become a truly P.I.E. (Psychologically informed environment) service and the two had so many parallels that it was a no brainer.

“It’s similar to P.I.E. and came from similar psychological studies etc but is accredited by the Royal College of Psychiatry so a pretty impressive accolade when we get the full award soon.

“I think the great thing about the EE accreditation is they look at the partnership working of both colleagues and residents, together making Janner House an Enabling Environment.”

What the team and residents had to say...

Zoe, Project Worker:

“Both residents at the project and staff needed to evidence that our project surmounted to an enabling environment. We held bi-weekly forums with residents to discuss the service. Everyone took this as a real opportunity to improve the project and I think it was especially fantastic for the residents to see that their feedback was shaping the service around them!”

Rhiannon, Manager:

“To receive the award, there are 10 standards outlined by the Royal College of Psychiatry. We achieved 9 of the 10 standards and have been awarded a certificate of achievement for our work so far! We now need to complete the final standard – one last hurdle before we receive the full award!”

LW, Resident:

“We have one more standard to evidence; that is, “everyone shares responsibility for the environment.” Residents and staff have discussed ways in which we can evidence this, and luckily with the weather improving we’ve been able to start re-shaping the garden. We’re planting new flowers and vegetables and photographing our garden transformations over the next few weeks and months!”

 Alex, Project Worker:

“We’re confident that with the combined efforts of staff and residents, we will be able to achieve the last standard! Everyone is keen to transform the garden to be a fun and creative space for everyone to enjoy! It’s fantastic to see everyone take ownership and make their own contributions to the garden.”

Rob, Project Worker:

“Everyone at Janner House is thrilled to have been acknowledged for the award and we’re happy to have taken this opportunity to improve the service. Residents have been able to work productively to achieve a qualification and have their voices heard!”
