Handover at Hillside

Last week saw the handover of our Hillside development constructed by MJ Cosgrove.
Hillside Residential Care Home in the Gaer was a large 2 story building that was previously used as an older persons accommodation. Due to the state of the building and the rising cost of repairs it was no longer fit for purpose. Newport County Council made the decision to decant the residents to alternative facilities and the scheme closed. It was left empty and unused for three years.
The property was enclosed by existing residential developments and had numerous incidents of vandalism and ASB. The design team were able to provide a layout which would provide 14 new affordable homes: four 1-bedroom walk-up apartments, two 2-bedroom houses and eight 3-bedroom houses.
You can take a look at some photographs of the completed properties in the gallery below.
The site provided an excellent opportunity to deliver high quality homes within a popular area of Newport with high demand for affordable housing and also provides an effective solution for a redundant and decaying building. This fabulous scheme is proof of what can be delivered by working in partnership with key stakeholders.
