A Birthday Celebration Fit for a King!
When lockdown threatened to spoil the birthday celebrations of one of our tenants at Ty Eirlys, the team stepped in to save the day.
John, a resident at Ty Eirlys, our supported living scheme in Newport, was worried that he wouldn’t be able to celebrate his birthday. John confided in his support workers, telling them that he doesn’t usually receive many cards and he was looking forward to a buffet party, which had sadly been cancelled, due to social distancing rules.
They had art supplies delivered to the accommodation where John lives - as well as the other local Pobl supported living services - and asked for help to ensure John's birthday was extra special.
The result was amazing and not only did John receive many handmade cards, he also had birthday video messages, a scarf and a birthday cake made for him.
On the big day, the team asked John along to a champagne breakfast in the communal garden, where he could open his cards and gifts with the other tenants and they all sang happy birthday to him.
John was so happy and told the team that it was the best birthday ever, exclaiming, “I feel like King Arthur and you are my knights, because you are my heroes”.
A birthday celebration fit for a King – we’re so pleased that John got the chance to enjoy his day.
Even in the most challenging circumstances, the Pobl care and support teams are going above and beyond to keep everyone safe – and raise a smile or two in the process.
