Pobl Pays Real Living Wage: Our Move to Recognise Vital Work

From 1st October 2021, Pobl Group has made the decision to pay the Real Living Wage as a minimum.

The Group’s priority is the provision of safe services and contracts. Pobl believes that better recognition for the vital work of its Care & Support teams is key to delivering that priority.

James Wadlow, Director of Care at Pobl Group states, “Our teams have continued to deliver high quality Care to vulnerable individuals throughout the pandemic. They work tirelessly to ensure that the people they support feel safe – which isn’t easy during a time when we have all felt an element of fear and uncertainty.

“Their unwavering dedication and commitment to their work is ongoing and I am delighted that we are able to offer this enhanced salary to people who are so very deserving of the recognition.”

It has been noted that Welsh Government has committed to the implementation of Real Living Wage within this term of Government, but as a Group, Pobl has moved to implementation immediately, recognising the urgent challenges faced by colleagues, and by the sector in resourcing and maintaining service quality.

Recruitment and retention across the whole sector is a very real issue presently – and it is hoped that in offering a better salary, more candidates will be attracted to what are highly challenging, yet incredibly rewarding roles.

Pobl Group has committed to working with commissioners and Local Authorities to fulfil Real Living Wage into the future, focussing on financial viability in 2022/23. Since making the commitment to Real Living Wage, Pobl has already declined to tender for contracts priced below levels enabling that wage.

Nick Taylor, Director of Support states, “We recognise the challenges faced by commissioners. A partnership approach will be required, alongside flexibility and innovation.

“As a not for profit, values-led organisation, our absolute focus is on ensuring sustainability of the highest quality care and support services, but we want to ensure this whilst recognising the hard work and dedication of all colleagues in achieving this aim.”

Pobl Group currently has a number of Care and Support vacancies across a varied range of services.
