Residents of Dan y Bryn care home in Pontardawe have benefitted from donations made via social fundraising platform, GoFundMe, enabling them to buy a new pool table just before Christmas.
Pool is a particularly popular hobby with residents at Dan y Bryn, especially with Danny McKew and Eurig Roberts who play at least once a day. Danny explained:
“We had an old pool table at Dan y Bryn but it was literally on its last legs, it was really wobbly which as you can imagine wasn’t the best when you’re taking part in very competitive matches!
“Louise suggested we set up a GoFundMe campaign and we were all pleasantly surprised how successful it was!”
Louise Esteban, personal assistant at Dan y Bryn, set up the GoFundMe page and in less than 48 hours the total fundraising goal of £200 was achieved, with 10 people generously donating various amounts to reach the target.
Tracey Bennett, Manager at Dan y Bryn, said:
“We’ve been overwhelmed by the support shown to us by the local community. The pool table is a big part of the residents’ daily lives; it brings them so much joy and encourages them to get together, keep active and socialise, keeping their spirits high.
“We’re so grateful to everyone who pledged a donation and would like to thank them and let them know that they’ve really made a difference to the wellbeing of the residents here. They’ve already put the pool table to good use and I’m sure it will continue to be well-used for years to come.”
