We have recently completed new homes on Swansea seafront, transforming what was once an unsightly piece of vacant land.
The prime site on Oystermouth Road, which had been empty since the Pantycelyn Hotel was demolished in 2007, is now home to 29 one bedroom apartments.
The £2.95 million development stands on what was the only clear site among the existing row of hotels and apartments and completes the architecture profile along this stretch of the seafront.
Jonathan Hughes, our Director of Development, explained how the location inspired the design of the new homes:
“The surrounding Victorian architecture really influenced the architects we worked with; most of the neighbouring properties have been extended to contain a room within the roof with large dormer windows and that feature has been replicated to give the impression of 6 individual buildings rather than one large, dominant structure. These large windows also maximise natural light and of course make the most of the amazing views over the Bay.”
In order to preserve the established building line on Oystermouth Road, car parking has been provided using a mixture of under croft and rear parking.
With high demand for affordable housing in the city centre, the apartments are helping to meet local housing need. This coupled with the panoramic views over to Mumbles head means that interest has been high. Tenants will be moving into their homes over the next few weeks.
Jonathan continued:
“Ty Morlun is a great example of Gwalia’s commitment to providing high quality, affordable homes in Swansea city centre. We strive to raise the bar in terms of the standard of modern affordable housing available locally.”
