Christmas has arrived early thanks to a very generous donation to residents living in our Pontardawe based care home Dan Y Bryn.
Previously reliant on local transport and private hire, people at the home have been overwhelmed by the generosity of one resident’s family as they took delivery of a fully adapted Mercedes Sprinter transport van.
Karen Williams, who is currently our acting manager at Dan Y Bryn said:
“The residents are delighted and we can’t wait to get out and about in it. We’ve got so many things planned. It will give us the independence we need to organise our day trips out and not be reliant on local transport.”
Never ones to miss out on a celebration, the home welcomed the transporter with cakes, prosecco and speeches while the home’s resident cat napped under the Christmas tree.
The family, whose relative has lived at Dan Y Bryn for the past 18 years, said that the donation was made so that all residents had the opportunity to be more spontaneously involved in the local community and so that they could plan trips out, have private transport for local appointments and personal shopping trips.
Our Operational Director of Residential and Nursing Care, Catrin Fletcher said:
“The generosity of this donation is absolutely stunning and it will make a real difference to resident involvement with local events and activities. We’re now committed to ensuring our staff get specific training on their licences to qualify as drivers of the adapted vehicle”.
