Huge well done to Nathan Owen – a Ty Eirlys tenant, supported by Pobl Care & Support who last week won Newport Live Sport’s ‘Volunteer of the Year 2018’.
He won the award for his work with Newport Live multisport; a sports group that encourages and promotes healthy living and active lifestyle in everyday life. Nathan was nominated for the award alongside 18 other people.
Nathan has also this year been studying for his Leadership in Sports Level 1 at Newport Velodrome via Newport Live and as a result now co-runs a course called Multisports with 2 other Newport Live members of staff.
Nathan told us: “I feel really proud to have won the award and it pleases me that people are starting to see the big difference sport can make to people’s lives.
I volunteer as I both enjoy helping people and love sport, so it is a perfect combination!”
Bobbie Davies, Engagement & Support Worker said “Nathan is such a deserved winner, and has made an amazing contribution towards both the class and it’s participants.
We are all extremely proud of Nathan’s achievements and his caring, patient willingness to help others less able than himself”.
Ty Eirlys is Pobl’s flagship independent living housing complex in Stow Hill, Newport, which opened in April 2017.
