We are just about to start demolition works at the former Police Station in Port Talbot, a key development in the regeneration of Port Talbot town centre.
The new 4 storey building will house 30 one bedroom apartments and 3 commercial units on the ground floor. The demolition work is expected to last up to 14 weeks, with completion of the development targeted for the end of 2018.
Jonathan Hughes, our Director of Development (West), explains more about the design ethos of the new project:
“We’ve consulted with the Design Commission for Wales to ensure that our development supports the transformative vision for the regeneration of Port Talbot town centre.
Our contractors, Morganstone, will be delivering a high quality, distinct development; floor to ceiling windows, balconies and bronze effect cladding will create a landmark building, encouraging more people to live in the town centre and resulting in a more vibrant and thriving Port Talbot.”
The £4 million investment is one of a number of projects in Port Talbot’s regeneration programme, which will see over £35 million invested in and around the town centre, partly funded by the Welsh Government’s Vibrant and Viable Places Programme (VVP).
The regeneration of Port Talbot aims to transform the living and working environment of the town, bringing new development and employment opportunities, creating a more inclusive, prosperous, healthy and sustainable place to both live and work.
Leader of Neath Port Talbot Council, Councillor Rob Jones said: “This demolition work is a welcome and important milestone in the redevelopment of the town centre. This project is a vital part of our wider regeneration plans that will give the town centre a huge boost.”
