New toolkit launched for supporting young single parents to grow together

Growing Together Group

On Wednesday 11th July, our Growing Together project that supports tenants who are also young single parents held a conference to share learning and experiences with partner organisations.

Growing Together was developed with Gingerbread in response to the issues and challenges experienced by young single parents living in social housing across Newport, Caerphilly, Torfaen and Monmouthshire and funded by Big Lottery Fund Wales ‘Bright New Futures’ young parent programme.

Growing Together focuses on the personal and social development of the young person in all areas of their life, of which parenting is just one. It aims to provide opportunities that motivate and inspire young people to make positive choices about the next stage of their lives through a flexible mix of one-to-one and group workshops, which enable parents to meet people, learn new skills, and set goals for personal progression.

Attendees at the conference heard from staff and parents involved in the project about how it has had life-changing results for many involved. In addition to keynote speeches, workshop sessions and panel discussions, the conference also launched a new toolkit for practitioners.
