Derwen’s flagship Newport development impresses
“Fantastic views”, “lovely location” “promotes a real feeling of community and security” were just some of the positive feedback gleaned at Derwen’s ‘meet the contractor’ event for their flagship housing complex for older people, located in the popular Gaer area of Newport this week.
Representatives from Derwen, Pobl’s Commercial Team, Ainsley Gommon Architects and local builder WRW Construction were all on hand to showcase the detailed plans and 3D flythrough of the complex, as well as answer any questions about the development and how people can apply for a home.
Local residents were particularly impressed by the eyecatching layout and design which reflect Derwen’s aspirations for older people’s housing within the City. The design comprises two communal blocks of self-contained apartments with a central hub and four walk-up apartments, providing a total of 39 new homes. Of these new homes, 33 will be two bedroom apartments and 6 will be one bedroom.
Located in a highly prominent and elevated position within the Gaer the apartments will have glazed balconies to benefit from the breathtaking views across the river Severn and will be split across a number of levels from lower ground floor to second floor, with lift access.
The communal hub will also provide a wonderful place for residents and those living in the adjoining Derwen homes to relax and socialise both inside and out on the raised terrace.
The initial ground works are well under way, with homes ready from late Summer 2017. The homes are available on a ‘tenure neutral’ basis and will be allocated via Newport City Council’s Home Options list.
