Our latest Newport housing development for over 55’s is on target to be completed by late Summer 2018.
‘Hen Eglwys’ is being built by Kingfisher Developments and will provide 14 apartments; a combination of one and two bedrooms and will include off street parking and amenity space. The properties will be rented by Derwen.
Pobl have worked closely with Faith in Affordable Housing, The Church in Wales, Welsh Assembly Government and Newport City Council to develop the new homes on the site of the former St Matthews Church, on Church Road in Newport.
Ian Bell, Derwen’s Head of Older People’s Housing said “It is fantastic to see how Hen Eglwys has taken shape and to see how it fits in seamlessly with the surrounding community.
We would like to acknowledge the considerable efforts made by the local community to save the church and have really appreciated the subsequent support they have given Pobl.
We continue to work in partnership with Newport City Council to increase the provision of affordable high quality homes for older people in the City. Hen Eglwys is the first of two Derwen housing developments which will be ready for tenants to move in this year, creating a total of 53 much-needed new homes.”
It also follows hot on the heels of Derwen’s extremely popular first new housing development of 19 homes at Clevedon Road, Newport back last year.
Hen Eglwys is located in the popular Caerleon Road area of Newport, close to the local shops and transport links and within walking distance of the City Centre. The development comes with a large buggy store, and photovoltaic panels for lower service charge costs.
The overall cost of the new homes is £1.5m, which includes £1,079,407 (inc supplements) of Welsh Assembly Government Social Housing Grant.
