Street Football Wales are a life changing charity, hosted by Pobl, who work with hundreds of disadvantaged youths across Wales by tackling social exclusion through ‘the beautiful game’ of football.
Earlier this year we were delighted to announce that welsh born Hollywood actor Michael Sheen had been appointed patron of Street Football Wales. The campaigning actor, a keen footballer who has captained all-star Soccer Aid sides and portrayed top manager Brian Clough on screen, took to a pitch at Gol Centre, Cardiff this week for the inaugural Street Football Wales Capital Cup football match. Michael also gave a passionate speech to the players and key partners about the importance of creating a team around ‘the team’ and the impact we can all have if we work together.
Street Football Wales teams are made up of players who face social exclusion through homelessness, substance misuse, mental ill health or cultural issues. Players may have been long term unemployed or involved in the criminal justice system but all are facing daily barriers to be part of society and the communities in which they live.
