Rent, Tenancy & Financial Questions
When do I pay my rent?
XXXXX
How do I pay my rent?
You will have your own rent account, so you can make a direct online payment. Alternatively, you can pop into the office when the lettings managers are there and they can do on online payment for you. Or you can ring us and we can take a payment over the phone. Sorry, we can’t take any cash payments.
Will I need to pay Council Tax?
Full time students are exempt from paying Council Tax. You will have to obtain a Council Tax Exemption Certificate from the University and provide us with a copy. If you fail to do this, you will be charged Council Tax.
Do I need to get contents insurance?
Yes. Make sure that it covers your bike, if you have one.
Can I move to another room?
If you want to change your room for any reason, this can be arranged subject to availability. There is an administrative and cleaning charge of £35.
What happens if I want to leave the accommodation?
If you want to leave, you have to apply to the student lettings managers in writing. If we have a student who is waiting for accommodation, we will authorise a surrender of your tenancy. If we do not have anyone waiting, we will assist by re-advertising your room, but it is your responsibility to find a replacement student to take over your tenancy with our agreement.

Building & Facilities Questions
Is there free Wi-Fi?
Yes, your Wi-Fi is included in your rent 😊
How do I log onto the Wi-Fi?
Option 1 Eduroam: Log into Eduroam with your University credentials as you do on campus. If you have any issues with this, you will need to contact the University’s I.T dept.
Option 2 G5Zone: Log into G5Zone, enter in your email address, first name and last name. If you have any issues with this or wired connections, email helpdesk@g5tech.com or call G5 helpdesk on 01224 443896 for assistance.
Is smoking allowed?
Smoking is not permitted anywhere inside the building. This includes electronic cigarettes and vaping.
How does the heating work?
The heating throughout the building is on a timer, but you can control the temperature within your room via a thermostat.
Will my electrical items need to be PAT tested?
Yes, if they are over 12 months old.
We have Afan Electrical attending in October (we will let you know the date). You must take any items you have brought from home that are over 12 months old to be tested.
Is there a communal lounge area?
The kitchens within each flat have a smart, flat screen TV on the wall. The larger kitchens have a sofa and soft seating area.
Unfortunately the building is too small to have a large communal lounge to accommodate everyone.
How do the TV remote controls work?
There are instructions provided with each TV. For ease, you can view them here too.
Where can I park my car?
Clarendon does not have a car park. There is limited street parking at the rear of the building.
Where can I keep my push bike?
We have a bike rack in the inner court yard. The bike rack is not covered, so you may want to bring a cover and a good D-Lock.
Where is the laundrette?
The laundrette is on the ground floor, opposite the office. There are 2 washing machines and 2 dryers available. COSTS???
Are there shops nearby?
Yes, it’s only a 5 minute walk into the town centre.
What happens if I lock myself out of my room?
All the main doors to the flats and buildings will lock behind you, so you will need to remember to have a key with you! If you lock yourself out during working hours, ring our maintenance team leader or one of the letting s managers, they can organise getting you access.
If you are locked out outside of working hours then you can ring our emergency repair line (01792 488288 and select option 2 for a repair) and they will organise for a contractor (Afan Electrical) to attend and allow you entry. They will get to you as soon as they can. Be warned – you will be charged for an out of hours call out!
Can I have guests to stay?
Unfortunately we do not allow guests to stay overnight.

Did You Know?
We’ve worked hard to ensure that Clarendon is completely carbon neutral.
Working with another not-for-profit organisation, we’ve planted 222 oak trees in nearby Lampeter.
We’re committed to sustainability and you’ll probably notice this in the way we work. We’re aiming to work digitally and won’t bombard you with lots of letters or plastic items.
We’re doing things differently and we hope you will help us by recycling your waste and looking after Aber. It’s a beautiful part of the world and we’re keen to help keep it that way for the future generations…
