The Team at Llety Llanelli applied for a Pobl Trust grant for the “Changing Rooms” project, and the Trust were pleased to award £1,000 in June 2021.
The Team had identified the need for a space for young people to be creative, knowing that young people thrive when they focus their energies on activities which allow them to express their emotions and feelings. They wanted to transform an existing training room into a “Creativity Space”, to feel safe and inspiring. The space is to be utilised for creative sessions including painting, pottery and creative writing, as well as being a quiet space to focus on education and training sessions.
But the Team weren’t planning to stop there! Alongside the Creativity Space, they planned to create a “Zen Room”; a place to facilitate and enhance Llety’s “Headspace” project in partnership with Mind (a pilot delivering therapy and mindfulness sessions weekly). This was to be a safe space to settle the mind and ease anxieties, and a welcoming space to host 1:1 support sessions and resident meetings. A place where young people could feel valued and accepted to share their views and feelings.
Trustee Gareth Williams visited the staff and young people at Llety Llanelli and was wowed but what they had achieved so far. Well done everyone at Llety Llanelli!
