The Pobl Trust was pleased to continue it’s support of Matthew’s House, awarding funding of £900 to “Matt’s Cafe” in September 2021.
Matthew’s House exists to provide a warm and welcoming building in the heart of Swansea, with the expressed intention of being accessible for the homeless and most vulnerable in Swansea. As part of the larger offering, Matt’s Cafe has served more than 110,000 meals from intercepted food waste and public donations to the most vulnerable in its local community.
Matt’s Cafe asked for funding support to relaunch and recover following the pandemic. The Cafe coordinates with the Swansea Together programme to ensure that seven days a week there is a vital touch point in the city for someone in crisis that offers food and support. Matt’s Café is the first registered café in Swansea of The Real Junk Food (TRJF) project network which is a national and international network of cafes (both permanent and pop-ups) with one central objective: to intercept food waste destined for land fill and use it to feed people who need it, on a pay as you feel basis.
