Plas Bryn Rhosyn Manager in line for a veggie treat
Congratulations to Stuart Davies, Registered Manager at our Plas Bryn Rhosyn care home in Neath for being shortlisted for the ‘Special Recognition’ award at the 2018 Awards for Excellence in Vegetarian and Vegan Care Catering.
The awards are being held by Vegetarian for Life, a UK based charity and the leading authority on diet and healthy living advice for older vegans and vegetarians. Their focus is on improving the standard of meat and dairy free catering in care homes and each award category recognises those in the care industry who’ve progressed change and created a leading service to meets people’s diverse needs.
Committed to providing older people with choice and a healthy diet, Stuart has already wowed MP Christina Rees when she visited the care home during Veganuary earlier this year to try out their new vegan cake recipes.
Supported by the excellent catering team at Plas Bryn Rhosyn, Stuart has since been working to provide people with the opportunity to continue with the choices they’ve been making all their lives about the food they choose to eat. Some residents at Plas Bryn Rhosyn have been vegetarian for most of their lives while some are simply enjoying the benefits of trialling many of the menu ideas created by the care home both on their own and with help from Vegetarian for Life’s cookbook.
“I’m honoured to be shortlisted for an award – and very surprised! Being able to provide people with choices and respect their beliefs is paramount to providing high standards of care and support. I’m looking forward to the day, and to be visiting Houses of Parliament.”
The awards will be held on 17th October at the Jubilee Room at the Houses of Parliament hosted by vegan comedian Matt Adlington who will also host talks about best practice in catering for vegetarians and vegans in a care setting.
So, congratulations on being shortlisted Stuart – our fingers are crossed for you!
