  • Building & Facilities Questions

    What do I need to bring with me?

    You will need to bring your own bedding, bathroom items and kitchen items. We provide the oven, hob, fridge, freezer, microwave, kettle and toaster.

    We do have a limited number of bedding packs for sale at a cost of £25. Please let us know as soon as possible and we can have one in your room, ready for your arrival.

    We have also teamed up with a company who sell Uni starter packs and will deliver to the accommodation before you move in, at a discounted rate. If you’re interested in this service, just let us know when you make a booking and we’ll send you the link.

    Is there free Wi-Fi?

    Yes, your Wi-Fi is included in your rent 😊

    Is smoking allowed?

    Smoking is not permitted anywhere inside the building, this includes electronic cigarettes and vaping.

    Can I bring my car?

    You are more than welcome to bring your car but Clarendon does not have a car park. There is limited street parking at the rear of the building.

    Can I bring my bike and where can I keep it?

    We have a bike rack in the inner court yard. The bike rack is not covered, so you may want to bring a cover and a good D-Lock.

    Is there a laundrette?

    Yes, we are installing a new laundrette on the ground floor (2 x commercial washing machines and 2 x commercial dryers).

    Are there shops nearby?

    Yes, Clarendon is on the promenade on the seafront, about a 5 minute walk into the town centre.

  • COVID-19 Questions

    What happens if there is another outbreak of Covid-19?

    We are in constant communication with the University and if they are forced to close due to Covid-19 you will have the option of staying in Clarendon or leaving. If you decide to leave then we will end your tenancy on the day that you leave.

    I need to quarantine when I enter the UK – Can I still stay at Clarendon?

    If you need to quarantine when you arrive, please let us know. We have plans in place to deal with this and will do everything we can to help you settle in safely.

  • Booking & Tenancy Questions

    How far in advance do I need to book?

    We have no idea how many students will book with us each year, so if you want a particular room and have decided that you want to live in Clarendon, we recommend booking your space with us early. The earlier you book, the more choice of rooms you’ll have.

    How do I book a room?

    Booking is easy – just fill in our enquiry form and one of our lettings managers will contact you.

    Alternatively you can go onto the Alexanders website and they can also help you book a room.

    We will send you a booking form and we require an advance rent payment to complete your booking and secure your room.

    How much is the advance rent payment?

    £250. This gets added to your final rent payment.

    What happens if I need to cancel my booking?

    Let us know as soon as possible. How much we can help will depend on the timing of your cancellation and the circumstances.

    Do I need a Guarantor?

    If you want to pay your rent in instalments, you will need to provide a UK guarantor. A UK guarantor is someone that lives and works in the UK full-time and is willing to sign a contract stating they will pay your rent if you fail to do so.

    If you do not have a UK guarantor, you can either use an online guarantor service, or pay your rent in full prior to the start of the tenancy.

    When does my Tenancy start?

    We have rolling start dates, so you and Alexanders Agency would agree a date to meet and exchange contracts and you would collect your keys. Your Tenancy would start on that day.

    What does my rent include?

    Your rent includes utility bills such as heating, water, electricity and Wi-Fi.

    Can I specify any preferences when booking?

    We are happy for you to state any preferences you may have about who you may be sharing with, what floor or room you want. We will do our best to try and accommodate this.

    Do I need to vacate my room during holiday breaks?

    No, once you have moved in, your room is yours until the end of your tenancy.

    Do I have to get contents insurance?

    Yes. We do not provide contents insurance, so you will need to obtain this before you come. Make sure you include your push bike if you have one.
